Längstens passé sind jene Zeiten, als die Ankündigung von Musik aus dem 20. Jahrhundert entweder Schrecken oder zumindest Verunsicherung auslöste. Heute, aus der Perspektive des rasch voranschreitenden 21. Jahrhunderts, sieht man das genauer und vor allem viel differenzierter. Sieht, welch breites Spektrum an Stilen und musikästhetischen Prämissen damals möglich war, sodass man mit Fug behaupten kann: So vielfältig wie im 20. Jahrhundert war Musik noch nie. Hoch interessante Einblicke in diese kaleidoskopische Vielfalt gibt der Pianist Teo Gheorghiu. Russland ist prominent mit Rachmaninoff vertreten ‒ mit dem cis-Moll-Prélude, wohl seinem populärsten Klavierstück überhaupt, sowie mit der grossen zweiten Klaviersonate. Aus Frankreich grüsst Maurice Ravel: Der göttliche langsame Satz aus seinem G-Dur-Klavierkonzert beginnt bekanntlich mit einem ausgedehnten, elegischen Klaviersolo. Warum also nicht den ganzen Satz entsprechend aufs Klavier übertragen? Teo Gheorghiu macht es gekonnt vor. Auch Georges I. Gurdjieff stammt aus dem russischen Zarenreich, ist letztlich aber ein griechisch-armenischer Mehrfachbegabter und hatte vor allem in Frankreich grosse Erfolge als Esoteriker, Schriftsteller, Choreograf und Komponist.

Der kanadisch-schweizerische Pianist Teo Gheorghiu präsentiert mit «Morgen- und Abenddämmerung der Romantik» sein neues Programm. Als echter Romantiker der Neuzeit lebt Teo Gheorghiu die Ideale dieser vergangenen Epoche, indem er eine harmonische Verbindung zur Natur pflegt, seine Wahrnehmung für Ästhetik schärft und mit existenziellen Fragen ringt.
Das Soloprogramm des Pianisten beginnt mit einem Beethoven’schen Paukenschlag, der die gesamte romantische Bewegung in ihrer musikalischen Form geprägt hat. Nach der Klaviersonate «Pathétique» setzt er mit der «Mondscheinsonate» noch einen drauf und kostet die sterbende Glut einer glorreichen Epoche aus, die weit über ein Jahrhundert andauerte. Ein musikalisches Erlebnis, das Emotionen von Melancholie bis zur Ekstase zu umfassen verspricht.
